San Diego Bass Fest

San Diego Bass Fest 2024 is on!

San Diego Bass Fest is an informative and exploratory five-day double bass workshop presented by the SDSU Community Music School, that takes place June 11-15, 2024 at the School for Music and Dance at San Diego State University, California. This annual San Diego Bass Fest aims to energize and unite the bass community in San Diego and will include internationally renowned bassists and educators to provide one-on-one and group instruction to students of all levels and all ages. Program will include private lessons, group technique classes, solo masterclasses, Bass Orchestra, and recitals.

Sample Schedule:
9am - 10am Group Warmup and Technique
10am - 11am Classical Solo Masterclass or Jazz Group Session
11am - 12pm Bass Orchestra
12pm - 1pm Lunch
1pm - 2pm Movement Class
2pm - 3pm Group Lessons
3pm - 4pm Small Ensemble Rehearsals
4pm - 5pm Special Topics Presentation

No meals or overnight housing provided. Snacks provided during most breaks.
Hotels are located near Mission Valley within a 10 minute drive from campus for out-of-town participants.

Solo Masterclasses

In addition to Bass Orchestra and group technique classes, each student will have the opportunity to perform solo in jazz and classical masterclasses.

Internationally Renowned Faculty

Esteemed double bassists in many genres of music will provide explorations in approach to music of orchestra, solo , chamber music, jazz, and other modern genres.

All Ages and All Levels

Everyone can learn something from each other no matter what your age or skill level. We are all here, faculty and participants, to grow and develop as musicians and human beings.

Free Concerts

The SDSU Community Music School presents select Bass Fest concert events free to the public. These events are open to all ages.

Faculty Recital

The San Diego Bass Faculty perform in concert.

Bass Fest Concert


The final concert features all participants and faculty in the Bass Fest Concert. Works range from all genres and ends in the grand finale of the Bass Orchestra. All these basses in one room will rock the Richter Scale!
